Abstract

This study delves into the ecological aspects of phenolic compounds in the twigs of Myricaria bracteata and Myricaria longifolia, focusing on their composition, tissue distribution, and antioxidant activity. The research reveals significant ecological and geographical variability in the composition of low-molecular-weight compounds within each species, with M. longifolia generally exhibiting higher concentrations of phenolic compounds. The study identifies constant and variable parameters of low-molecular-weight compound composition in the tissues and on their surfaces, highlighting the secretion of organic and phenolic acids. Chromatographic and histochemical analyses confirm the presence of secretion of these compounds by the leaves and stems of the studied species. The antioxidant activity of the extracts and exudates is also examined, showing that exudates generally possess higher antioxidant activity. The findings suggest that these species could play a role in improving air quality and producing health-promoting substances, making them valuable for further ecological and pharmacological studies.
