Abstract

The article delves into the role of multinational companies in driving economic growth and the formation of inter-regional ties among cities. It utilizes network motifs to analyze the connectivity patterns of global economic hubs, revealing that distant economic alliances dominate over local or regional ties. The study highlights the strategic expansion of multinational firms and the impact of their presence on cities, including both positive economic impacts and negative effects such as tax avoidance and gentrification. By examining networks of cities based on owner-subsidiary data, the research offers a comprehensive view of the global economic landscape and the complex interplay among cities.
