Abstract

This chapter delves into the effects of CaO-based expansive agents on the strength and shrinkage characteristics of Engineered Cementitious Composites (ECC). The study focuses on the use of a Type G shrinkage-compensating agent and its impact on compressive strength and ultrasonic pulse velocity (UPV) values. Key topics include the role of expansive agents in counteracting shrinkage, the influence of fibre types on shrinkage reduction, and the mechanical properties of ECC with varying percentages of expansive agent addition. The research concludes that while the expansive agent has a minor effect on compressive strength, it shows potential for self-healing and improving the homogeneity of ECC over time. The chapter provides a comprehensive analysis of the interactions between expansive agents, fibres, and the ECC matrix, offering practical insights for professionals working on durable and high-performance concrete solutions.
