Abstract

The chapter delves into the impact of coir geocell on the liquefaction potential of coastal sand, a critical issue in areas with high infrastructural developments like Kerala. Liquefaction, a phenomenon where saturated loose sands behave like liquids under dynamic loading, poses significant risks to construction projects. The study utilizes a laminar box shake table to assess the effectiveness of coir geocells of varying heights in mitigating liquefaction. The results indicate a substantial reduction in excess pore pressure and enhanced liquefaction resistance, with full-height geocells showing the most significant improvement. This research not only highlights the potential of coir geocells as a cost-effective and environmentally friendly solution but also underscores the need for further investigation into their durability and field applications.
