Abstract

The article delves into the effect of crude oil properties on the interfacial tension (IFT) of CO2 and crude oil under high-pressure, high-temperature (HPHT) conditions. It examines the IFT between CO2 and four different crude oil systems as a function of pressure at two temperatures (50°C and 90°C), using the vanishing interfacial tension (VIT) technique to calculate MMP and FCMP. The study highlights the significant influence of crude oil composition, including asphaltene content and TAN, on IFT and miscibility. A correlation is developed to estimate IFT based on pressure, density, and TAN, providing valuable insights for enhancing oil recovery through CO2 EOR operations.
