Abstract

This chapter delves into the effect of basalt fibres on the tension stiffening behaviour of binary blended ambient cured geopolymer concrete, a sustainable alternative to traditional cement. The study examines the mechanical properties, including compressive strength, split tensile strength, and flexural strength, of geopolymer concrete with varying dosages of basalt fibre. It also investigates the crack pattern and crack width, highlighting how basalt fibres influence crack formation and propagation. The axial stress-strain behaviour is analysed to understand the tension stiffening characteristics. The results indicate that the addition of 0.5% volume fraction of basalt fibre significantly improves the mechanical properties and reduces crack width, making it a promising material for sustainable construction under adverse environmental conditions.
