Abstract

The article investigates the impact of energy on the residual strength of Type III composite gas cylinders, essential in aviation and vehicle engineering. It highlights the critical role of these cylinders and the potential dangers of impact damage, which can reduce their residual strength. The study focuses on the differences in impact damage caused by various impactor shapes and locations, with a particular emphasis on the impact energy threshold related to fiber fracture. The research employs a combined method of numerical simulation and experimentation to analyze the damage and residual strength under impact energies ranging from 20 to 200 J. Additionally, it examines the impact behavior at different internal pressures, providing valuable insights into the impact damage evaluation of these cylinders. The findings include the identification of critical impact energies and the influence of internal pressure on residual strength, contributing to the safe service of composite gas cylinders.
