Abstract

This article delves into the intricate effects of inorganic fillers on the properties of polyvinyl chloride/acrylonitrile styrene acrylic resin polymer blends. It begins by outlining the fundamental properties of PVC and ASA, setting the stage for a detailed examination of how the introduction of fillers such as muscovite, CaCO3, and talc powder can significantly alter these properties. The study meticulously investigates the mechanical strengths, thermal stability, and water absorption rates of the blends, providing a comprehensive overview of how different fillers interact with the polymer matrix. One of the key findings is the superior performance of talc powder in enhancing tensile and bending strengths, attributed to its layered structure that effectively transfers loads and hinders molecular chain sliding. The article also explores the thermal properties, revealing how fillers like talc and muscovite improve thermal stability through physical barriers and chemical catalysis. Additionally, the water absorption analysis shows that inorganic fillers can significantly reduce the water absorption rate, with CaCO3 demonstrating the most pronounced effect at lower concentrations. The microstructural analysis using SEM provides visual evidence of how fillers distribute and interact within the polymer matrix, further elucidating their impact on the overall properties of the blends. This article offers a holistic view of the multifaceted role of inorganic fillers in polymer blends, making it an essential read for anyone interested in advanced materials science and polymer engineering.
