Abstract

The study investigates the impact of load frequency and displacement amplitude on the shear behaviour of soft synthetic rock joints under cyclic shear loads. It reveals that higher load frequencies increase peak shear stress but also lead to significant reductions in post-peak shear stress. The research also shows that the shear mechanism on joint asperities changes with varying load frequencies and displacement amplitudes, influencing the direction and extent of joint degradation. These findings are crucial for understanding the stability of rock structures in seismically active regions.
