Abstract

This study delves into the effects of incorporating methylene blue dye into potassium acid phthalate (KAP) crystals, focusing on solubility, optical properties, photoluminescence, and laser damage threshold. The research reveals that the addition of 0.1 mol% methylene blue significantly enhances the solubility and crystal growth rate of KAP, leading to larger and more transparent crystals. Optical transmittance is improved, with dye-doped crystals showing 82% transmittance compared to 74% for pure KAP. The study also highlights a broad emission band at 680 nm in dye-doped crystals, indicating enhanced photoluminescence. Notably, the laser damage threshold is substantially increased to 7.5 GW/cm², making these crystals more resilient for high-intensity laser applications. Additionally, the piezoelectric charge coefficient is enhanced, suggesting potential applications in electromechanical devices. The research concludes that methylene blue doping improves the overall quality and performance of KAP crystals, making them suitable for advanced optoelectronic and photonic devices.
