Abstract

The article discusses the critical role of mold design in reducing macrosegregation in steel ingots, which significantly affects their mechanical properties and service life. It reviews previous research on optimizing mold design and introduces a three-phase mixed columnar-equiaxed model to simulate the solidification process. The model considers factors like height-diameter ratio and taper, providing valuable insights into controlling solute distribution and enhancing ingot casting production. The study highlights the importance of understanding microstructure evolution and macrosegregation in steel ingots to achieve better quality and yield rates.
