Abstract

This chapter delves into the critical role of pile diameter in the performance of combined pile raft foundations (CPRF), a popular choice for high-rise buildings. Through a series of parametric studies using PLAXIS-3D, the research examines how varying pile diameters affect load distribution, settlement, and the overall stability of CPRF. The study reveals that increasing pile diameter enhances the load-bearing capacity of piles while reducing settlement, offering a more efficient and cost-effective foundation design. Key findings include the optimal pile diameter for minimizing settlement and maximizing load distribution, as well as the impact of pile diameter on the CPRF coefficient. The research also highlights the importance of considering soil nonlinear behavior and pile spacing in CPRF design. By validating the model with field-measured results, the study provides practical insights for engineers aiming to optimize foundation performance in high-rise construction projects.
