Abstract

The study investigates the impact of plant growth regulators (PGRs) such as hydrogen peroxide, salicylic acid, and thiourea on late-sown wheat under saline conditions. It delves into the effects of PGRs on water relations, proximate composition, and the ascorbate/glutathione cycle, aiming to enhance stress tolerance and improve grain quality. The research was conducted over two years, with significant findings showing that PGRs effectively improved water potential, osmotic potential, and turgor potential, even under stress conditions. Furthermore, PGRs were found to enhance the antioxidant system, reduce oxidative stress, and improve grain characteristics such as floret fertility, grain width, and grain length. The study concludes that PGRs, particularly thiourea, play a crucial role in mitigating the adverse effects of late-sowing and salinity stress on wheat, making it a valuable resource for agricultural researchers and plant scientists.
