Abstract

The article investigates the effect of silica powder on microbial-induced carbonate precipitation (MICP) for enhancing medium-coarse sand. MICP is a technique using bacteria to induce calcium carbonate precipitation, improving soil properties. The study focuses on the influence of silica powder on bacterial activity and calcium carbonate yield, showing that silica powder enhances bacterial retention and calcium carbonate production. This leads to improved soil strength and reduced permeability. The research also highlights the durability of MICP-treated sand with silica powder, making it a promising material for soil reinforcement in engineering projects.
