Abstract

Wire-like and rounded tin (IV) oxide particles were synthesized using the chemical vapor deposition method by varying the process parameters. Comparison of characteristics and electrical properties of the obtained SnO2 structures was performed. Thermal analysis of tin (II) oxalate precursor was performed, and the effect of temperature on SnO2 phase composition was investigated. Synthesized SnO2 samples were studied using scanning electron microscopy, Raman spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction analysis and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The study of electrical properties was performed recording the current–voltage characteristics (CVC). It was established that wire-like and rounded SnO2 particles have different nature of temperature dependences of conductivity, and thus morphology has a significant influence on electrical properties. Additional studying of the sensitivity of SnO2 layers in the atmosphere of acetone and hydrogen was carried out, and it was observed that wire-like structures demonstrate higher sensitivity to selected gases in comparison with those of rounded particles.
