Abstract

The article delves into the critical factors affecting slag foaming behavior in electric arc furnace (EAF) steelmaking, focusing on temperature, FeO content, and the use of carbonaceous materials, including spent tires. It explores how these variables influence gas generation, foam stability, and the overall efficiency of the steelmaking process. The study reveals that higher temperatures reduce foam height and retention time due to decreased slag viscosity and surface tension. Increasing FeO content enhances initial foam height but can lead to reduced stability beyond a certain threshold. The injection of spent tires improves initial foam height due to their high volatile content, but excessive use undermines foam stability. The article concludes that a balanced mixing ratio of anthracite and spent tires is essential for achieving desirable foaming characteristics while promoting sustainability. Professionals will gain insights into optimizing slag foaming behavior, reducing carbon emissions, and enhancing the utilization of sustainable carbonaceous materials in EAF steelmaking.
