Abstract

The study investigates the impact of TiC particle addition on the tribological behavior of ductile iron. It reveals that TiC promotes the heterogeneous nucleation of cementite, increases the cooling rate, and enhances the hardness and wear resistance of ductile iron. The research highlights the transformation from adhesive to abrasive wear mechanisms with increasing TiC content, and the formation of an oxide layer that improves wear resistance. Additionally, it shows that TiC particles lead to strain hardening in the subsurface layer, further enhancing the wear resistance. The findings offer valuable insights into simplifying the preparation process of wear-resistant ductile iron for commercial applications.
