Abstract

The chapter delves into the effect of unusual terrain on local wind characteristics, emphasizing the necessity of accurate wind tunnel studies to replicate real-world conditions. It outlines the methodology for topographical modeling, including the use of small-scale models to capture the influence of distant topography. The text presents two case studies that demonstrate the translation of small-scale topography studies to large-scale wind tunnel tests, showcasing the effectiveness of these techniques in capturing site-specific wind characteristics. The chapter underscores the importance of these studies for structures in complex terrains, ensuring that the wind tunnel tests accurately represent the site-specific wind conditions.
