Abstract

The chapter delves into the intricate dynamics of riverbank erosion along the Hau River in Southern Vietnam, with a particular focus on the impact of vessel waves. It begins by introducing the geographical context and significance of the Hau River, highlighting the complex interplay between natural and vessel-generated waves. The research methodology involves detailed monitoring of vessel waves and laboratory experiments to understand the erosion mechanisms. The study reveals that the combination of vessel traffic and natural wave actions leads to significant erosion, with the critical shear stress and moisture content of the riverbank materials playing pivotal roles. The chapter also discusses the implications of these findings for riverbank stability and socio-economic development in the region, providing a comprehensive analysis that underscores the need for effective management strategies to mitigate erosion.
