Abstract

This study delves into the potential of waste plastic in improving the moisture damage resistance of warm mix asphalt mixtures. It explores the use of different plastic contents and compares conventional, warm mix, and plastic modified bituminous mixes. The research employs boiling water and indirect tensile strength tests to evaluate the performance of these mixes against moisture damage. Notably, the study finds that waste plastic can significantly enhance moisture resistance, with optimal results observed at a 10% plastic content. Additionally, the incorporation of warm mix asphalt additives is investigated to determine its impact on moisture damage resistance when combined with waste plastic. The findings suggest that while warm mix asphalt may slightly reduce moisture resistance, it facilitates the incorporation of higher plastic content without compromising performance. This study offers valuable insights into the potential of waste plastic in road construction, providing a sustainable solution to both environmental and engineering challenges.
