Abstract

This study delves into the potential of wastewater as a sustainable alternative to freshwater in concrete production, focusing on its impact on strength and durability. The research identifies five major source points of wastewater in Hyderabad, India, and conducts detailed chemical analyses to determine their suitability for concrete production. The findings reveal that wastewater from the Narsingi service road bridge (S2) is the most suitable replacement for freshwater, meeting the required standards for concrete production. The study investigates the effects of varying proportions of wastewater on concrete strength and durability, with promising results. The compressive strength of concrete was found to be optimum with 0% replacement in casting and 100% replacement in curing, showing a 32.39% increase compared to the standard M25 mix. Similarly, the split tensile strength was also found to be optimum under the same conditions, with a 12.06% increase compared to the M25 mix. The study highlights the importance of replacing potable water with wastewater as a sustainable option to preserve freshwater resources. The research provides valuable insights into the potential of wastewater in concrete production, offering a cost-effective and environmentally friendly solution for the construction industry.
