Abstract

The study investigates the impact of loading rate on the fracture modes and acoustic emission (AE) characteristics of interbedded shale under tension. Using Brazilian splitting tests, researchers analyzed the fracture morphology and AE parameters under different loading rates. They found that higher loading rates resulted in straighter fractures and increased tensile strength, with distinct AE patterns indicating more intense fracture activity. The study highlights the importance of understanding these mechanisms for optimizing hydraulic fracturing in shale reservoirs, particularly in complex interbedded formations.
