Abstract

The study investigates the impact of oxygen concentration on the fire behavior of Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT) under controlled atmospheric conditions using a Controlled-Atmosphere Cone Calorimeter. It examines the influence of oxygen levels on mass loss, heat release, and gas production, revealing that lower oxygen concentrations lead to incomplete combustion and increased production of dangerous gases like carbon monoxide and methane. The research also highlights the importance of understanding these phenomena to improve fire safety engineering and protect against the hazards of different fire scenarios. The use of advanced techniques like Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy and Electrical Low Pressure Impactor offers a comprehensive analysis of the gaseous emissions and aerosol production, making this study a valuable contribution to the field of fire safety research.
