Abstract

The article investigates the effects of prestrain and inner stress on the hydrogen embrittlement (HE) susceptibility of hot stamped boron steel with mixed martensite-bainite microstructures. It demonstrates that the presence of bainite reduces HE susceptibility, but only when a critical volume fraction is exceeded. The study also reveals that prestrain improves HE resistance in martensite-dominant microstructures but aggravates it in bainite-dominant ones. Tensile stress intensifies HE susceptibility, while compressive stress shows varying effects depending on the microstructure. The research combines slow strain rate tensile tests, fractograph analysis, and hydrogen desorption tests to provide a detailed understanding of the HE mechanisms in these advanced high-strength steels.
