Abstract

The Mediterranean fruit fly, Ceratitis capitata, is a significant pest of fruit crops worldwide, causing substantial economic losses. This article presents a detailed study on the efficacy of two native Iranian entomopathogenic nematodes, Steinernema carpocapsae and Heterorhabditis bacteriophora, in controlling the larval and pupal stages of C. capitata. The research includes laboratory bioassays and field trials, assessing the impact of different concentrations, temperatures, and soil types on the nematodes' virulence. The findings indicate that these native EPN strains show promising potential for controlling C. capitata, offering a sustainable alternative to traditional pest control methods. The article provides valuable insights into the biocontrol of this destructive pest, contributing to the development of effective and environmentally friendly pest management strategies.
