Abstract

The article delves into the efficient finite element modeling of piezoelectric transducers for wave-propagation-based analysis. It addresses the challenges posed by the dispersive behavior of Lamb waves and the computational demands of electro-mechanical coupling. The study introduces a simplified mechanical approach to mimic the piezoelectric response, demonstrating significant reductions in simulation time while maintaining accuracy. The method is validated through a detailed error analysis and an application case involving time-reversal modeling for damage localization. The results highlight the potential of this approach for large-scale simulations with dozens of transducers, making it a valuable resource for professionals in the field of structural health monitoring.
