Abstract

This chapter delves into the world of electric fluidized beds and their role in mineral processing. It begins by highlighting the importance of critical minerals in modern technologies and the need for sustainable processing methods. The chapter then explores the advantages of fluidized bed technology, including enhanced heat transfer and improved reaction kinetics. The main focus is on the application of Joule heating in fluidized beds, with a detailed explanation of the three basic configurations: external, direct, and internal Joule heating. The chapter also introduces flash joule heating, a new variant of Joule heating that offers several advantages over traditional methods. The chapter concludes with a case study on the use of electric fluidized beds for graphite purification, demonstrating the potential of this technology in reducing the environmental footprint of mineral processing.
