Cupra Launches First Electric Model Born
Seat subsidiary Cupra has unveiled its first battery-electric model. The Cupra Born is based on the VW ID.3 model and will be launched in two performance levels.
The Cupra Born uses the Volkswagen Group’s MEB platform and is 4,322 mm long, 1809 mm wide, 1537 mm high and has a wheelbase of 2767 mm. Narrow headlights with triangular light graphics, hinted air intakes, copper-colored accents and a continuous light bar at the rear distinguish the Born from the ID.3. The Seat stands on alloy wheels ranging in size from 18 to 20''.
The interior features standard bucket seats, some of which are made of marine plastic. The digital cockpit features a head-up display with augmented reality. The connected infotainment system is always online thanks to eSIM and features a 12" touchscreen, online navigation, and voice control. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto can be integrated.
Cupra Born with up to 170 kW output
The Cupra Born is available in two power levels, with the electric motor producing 110 kW (150 PS) or 150 kW (204 PS). An e-Boost package is available as an option, in which case the maximum output rises to 170 kW (231 PS). The torque of 310 Nm is the same for all versions. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels via a single-speed transmission with differential. The Cupra model is equipped with sports suspension and DCC adaptive chassis control as well as progressive steering.
The water-cooled lithium-ion battery pack is available in three sizes with 45, 58 or 77 kWh. With the smallest battery pack, the Cupra Born has a range of 340 km; with a capacity of 58 kWh, a range of around 420 km is possible. Up to 540 km range is offered by the 77 kWh version. With the large battery, the Cupra Born can be connected to a 125 kW DC fast charging station and charge a range of 100 km after 7 min of charging. The Cupra Born was developed in Martorell (Spain), and will be built at the German plant in Zwickau from September.
