Battery-electric compact SUV for urban areas: The Chinese manufacturer BYD is bringing the Atto 2 to Europe.

The BYD Atto 2 is 4,310 mm long, 1,830 mm wide and 1,675 mm high. The SUV is built on BYD's e-platform 3.0. The cell-to-body (CTB) design integrates the battery into the chassis, which is intended to optimize both body rigidity and the available space. The front is characterized by narrow LED headlights and a wide radiator grille. At the rear, the electric SUV has a roof spoiler and a continuous light strip. All versions of the Atto 2 stand on 17-inch wheels.

The standard panoramic glass roof lets plenty of light into the interior. The front seats are electrically adjustable, and the steering wheel and front seats are heated in the higher-end version. The cockpit integrates an 8.8" driver display, and the rotatable touchscreen for the OTA-capable infotainment system is between 10.1 and 12.8" in size, depending on the equipment. Voice control with "Hi BYD", Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are standard, and apps such as Spotify, YouTube, Zoom and Amazon Music can also be used. The boot volume is between 400 and 1,340 liters.

BYD Atto 2 with 45 kWh Battery

The compact SUV weighs 1,570 kg when empty and is powered by a 130 kW (177 hp) electric motor. The maximum torque of 290 Nm is sent to the front axle, and it takes around 8 s to accelerate from 0–100 km/h. The maximum speed is 160 km/h. Four driving modes are available. The Atto 2 should be able to drive up to 312 km according to WLTP before it needs to be recharged. The 45.12 kW Blade battery can be charged with up to 65 kW at fast charging stations, and up to 11 kW (3-phase) at AC. The BYD Blade battery uses lithium iron phosphate (LFP) as the cathode material. A heat pump and V2L function with an output of up to 3.3 kW are standard.

In terms of driver assistance systems, the BYD is well equipped: driver monitoring system, intelligent cruise control, speed adaptation for traffic sign recognition, lane departure warning, lane change assistant, blind spot assistant, door opening warning (DOW), automatic emergency braking assistant, front and rear collision warning or rear cross-traffic warning and braking. The Atto 2 will be launched on the European market at the end of the first quarter of 2025 in the "Active" and "Boost" configurations. The "Comfort" version will be added later, which should travel up to 420 km according to WLTP with more power and a larger battery.
