Genesis Presents the Battery Electric GV60
Hyundai subsidiary Genesis has unveiled the Genesis GV60. The Korean luxury brand's second battery-electric vehicle is based on the group's own E-GMP electric platform.
The new Genesis GV60 is 4515 mm long, 1890 mm wide and 1580 mm high, with a wheelbase of 2900 mm. The rounded design of the electric crossover features the brand’s signature “quad lights” at the front and rear. The “clamshell hood” combines the hood and fenders in a single element. In addition, the model is equipped with digital side mirrors and electrically retractable door handles. The wheels range in size from 19 to 21".
The Genesis GV60 stands on the E-GMP (Electric-Global Modular Platform) electric platform and is offered in three different versions as a rear-wheel drive model, an all-wheel drive model and a particularly sporty all-wheel drive version. The rear-wheel drive RWD version has a maximum output of 168 kW (228 PS) and maximum torque of 350 Nm. The 77.4-kWh battery is said to enable a range of up to 451 km in the RWD models.
Genesis GV60 with two all-wheel drive versions
With all-wheel drive, a 74-kW engine operates at the front (101 PS), while a 160-kW engine (218 PS) powers the rear wheels. Total output is 234 kW (318 PS), with maximum torque at 605 Nm. The range is given as 400 km. The performance model has two 160 kW engines at the front and rear. Here the system output is 320 kW (435 PS), while maximum torque is reached at 605 Nm. The maximum range is said to be 368 km. All models feature an electronic limited-slip differential as well as boost and drift modes.
The chassis consists of a MacPherson multilink suspension for the front wheels and a five-link suspension at the rear. The camera-based “Road Preview System” detects and gathers information on road conditions to control damping accordingly.
The GV60 uses a 400/800-V multi-fast charging system that boosts the 400-V supplied by the charger to 800-V. Fast charging at 350 kW is said to be able to charge the battery from 10 to 80 % in just 18 min. Battery conditioning can be used to shorten the charging time by adjusting the battery temperature. The GV60 can also be used as a mobile power source to charge other electronic devices with its V2L (Vehicle to Load) function.
Face recognition and fingerprint sensor
The GV60 has several vehicle access systems: for example, vehicle unlocking can be done via “Face Connect,” which uses a near-infrared camera integrated into the B-pillar for facial recognition. Once unlocked, the vehicle adjusts the comfort seats, head-up display, steering wheel, side mirrors and infotainment system to the individual stored values. A fingerprint authentication system is also on board, and a digital key can also be used.
The digital panoramic display combines the instrument cluster and infotainment screen. A head-up display is also available for the driver. The spherical "Crystal Sphere" transmission selector lever sits on the “floating center console.” The Over-the-Air (OTA) function has been expanded by Genesis to include software updates for key electronic devices such as the electric vehicle's integrated control unit, suspension, brakes, steering wheel, airbags and driver assistance systems. The Bang & Olufsen sound system uses 17 speakers. The Road Active Noise Control (ANC-R) system is designed to dampen unwanted noise. Three different soundscapes are also available via the electric Active Sound Design (e-ASD): Futuristic, G-Engine and E-Motor.
Driver assistance systems include emergency brake assist, multi-collision braking, lane departure warning, blind spot assist, ISLA (Intelligent Speed Limit Assist), attention warning, adaptive cruise control that is also navigation-based, high beam assist, Highway Driving Assist 2 (HDA 2) and 360° cameras with rear cross-traffic alert.
Environmentally friendly materials in the interior
The interior also uses environmentally friendly and recycled materials. Seats, door armrests, console armrests and crash pads are made of plant-based leather. The seat covers and door panels are made of fabrics whose yarns were obtained from recycled PET bottles and fishing nets.
