After six years of production, the Renault Zoe is now being completely revised. Besides some touch-ups to its appearance, the electric compact car will have a stronger engine, more range and CCS charging technology.

The Renault Zoe is the top-selling electric car in Germany and Europe. In order to maintain its market position and keep Peugeot, Volkswagen and Opel at bay, Renault has given its Zoe model, built since 2012, a facelift. The full-LED headlights on the redesigned front and the LED rear lights make a noticeable difference to the revised electric car's appearance.

The new R135 electric engine can now deliver 100 kW of power, compared to 80 kW previously, while its torque is increasing to 245 N m. The new Zoe has a maximum speed of 140 km/h. The new Z.E 50 lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 52 kWh allows for a WLTP range of up to 390 kilometres. However, the smaller battery with 40 kWh of capacity is also still available. In addition to the Type 2 charging connection with a maximum charging rate of 22 kW, the Zoe will now receive a CCS socket for charging at DC stations. With a maximum charging rate of 50 kW, the battery will be able to charge 150 kilometres of range in 30 minutes.

The Renault Zoe has a revamped interior and new technology

The newly designed cockpit includes a 10" TFT display on the instrument cluster. The EASY LINK networked multimedia system is accessed using a 9.3" touchscreen. A new driving mode, simply called "B mode", enables one-pedal-driving, and is activated by pressing the "E-shifter". This uses recuperation energy, making the friction brake, which has now been designed as a disc brake on the rear axle, largely superfluous.

In addition to OTA updates, a completely new electronic architecture in the Zoe now enables the use of new driver assistance systems such as emergency brake assist, traffic sign recognition with speed warning, lane departure warning and lane assistant, high beam assist, blind spot monitor, and an auto hold function. The new generation of the Renault Zoe will be released in late summer 2019.
