The new hydrogen fuel cell-powered vehicle is slated for launch in 2018.

The as-yet unnamed SUV will be launched on the market in 2018 and will succeed the Hyundai ix35 Fuel Cell. It will be Hyundai’s second fuel-cell vehicle to go into serial production and will have higher performance and efficiency than its predecessor: the power of the electric motor has increased from 100 kW (136 hp) to 120 kW (163 hp), while the efficiency has improved from 55.3 to 60 percent. The range is expected to be 800 kilometres on a full tank (based on the New European Driving Cycle), which equates to an increase of more than 200 kilometres compared to its predecessor.
The car’s cold start capability at temperatures below freezing has also been improved. An optimised fuel stack allows the car to start at temperatures as low as -30 °C according to Hyundai. The tanks have also been modified, with the hydrogen now stored in three identical high-pressure hydrogen tanks instead of the two previous tanks of different sizes.
Hyundai Kona to receive electric drive
Hyundai has announced the launch of at least 31 eco-friendly models with electric, hybrid or fuel cell drive by 2020. 2018 will see the launch of the Hyundai Kona compact electric SUV with a range of 390 kilometres.
