Abstract

The article delves into the electrical conductivity measurements of ternary SiO2–PbO–CaO slags, which are pivotal for lead refining in the metallurgical industry. It highlights the substitution of PbO by CaO and its impact on slag properties, particularly electrical conductivity. The study aims to clarify the effect of CaO on the conductivity of lead silicate slags, which is crucial for optimizing lead refining processes and reducing metal losses and environmental impacts. The research involves preparing and characterizing slag samples, conducting electrical conductivity measurements, and analyzing the results to understand the structural and conductive properties of the slags. The findings reveal a significant decrease in electrical conductivity with the substitution of PbO by CaO, which is attributed to differences in the local environments of Pb2+ and Ca2+ cations in the silicate network. The study also addresses the limitations of current conductivity models and suggests the need for incorporating cation interaction parameters to better predict the observed trends.
