Abstract

The chapter 'Embedding Function Icons into QR Codes' delves into the integration of visual icons into QR codes to improve user experience and accessibility. It begins by discussing the technical limitations of QR codes and the need for visual cues to indicate the purpose of the encoded information. The research focuses on embedding function icons (FIs) into QR codes without compromising decoding accuracy. The study involved surveying smartphone users to identify key factors influencing QR code design preferences and conducting eye-tracking experiments to assess the attractiveness of different designs. The results showed a positive correlation between the degree of attractiveness and the number of eye gazes. Additionally, the chapter presents a detailed methodology for creating and embedding FIs into QR codes, ensuring high readability and user satisfaction. The findings highlight the potential of this approach to enhance the usability and appeal of QR codes in various applications, from marketing to accessing information.
