Abstract

The chapter delves into the concept of embodiment, emphasizing its cognitive and sensorimotor aspects. It begins with a philosophical exploration of embodiment, tracing its roots back to ancient debates and modern philosophical concepts. The discussion then shifts to the field of robotics, highlighting the influence of embodiment on the development of humanoid robots and the challenges faced in mimicking human cognitive and sensorimotor functions. The chapter also introduces the concept of the sense of self-agency (SSA) and its robotic embodiment, showcasing the interplay between neurological and robotic approaches. Additionally, it addresses the ethical and philosophical implications of anthropomorphizing robots and the potential future developments in the field of humanoid robotics.
