Abstract

The article addresses the critical need for secure over-the-air (OTA) updates in modern vehicles, which are increasingly vulnerable to cyber-attacks. It introduces a groundbreaking end-to-end trusted computing architecture that leverages Intel SGX and ARM TrustZone to ensure the confidentiality and integrity of software updates, even in the presence of privileged attackers. The proposed architecture is designed to resist advanced attacks by protecting data throughout its lifecycle, from processing to storage. The implementation and evaluation of a secure OTA transfer protocol using Intel SGX and ARM TrustZone are detailed, highlighting the low latency and high security of the proposed solution. The article also compares different commercial TEE tools, providing valuable insights into their performance and security benefits. Additionally, it discusses the challenges and limitations of current OTA update systems and offers a comprehensive security analysis, making it an essential read for anyone interested in enhancing the security of vehicular software updates.
