Abstract

The article delves into the optimization of cluster head selection in wireless sensor networks (WSNs) for the Internet of Things (IoT), focusing on energy efficiency and network longevity. It introduces a novel fuzzy-based Harris Hawks Optimization (FHHO) algorithm, which calculates a fitness function using residual energy and distance to select the optimal cluster head. The FHHO algorithm enhances network performance by reducing energy consumption and extending the network's lifespan. The paper conducts a thorough comparison with existing optimization techniques, highlighting the advantages and limitations of each. It also provides a detailed methodology for implementing the FHHO algorithm, including system preliminaries and energy models. The research aims to address the challenges of managing energy resources in large-scale WSNs and offers valuable insights into improving the overall efficiency of IoT-based applications.
