Abstract

The article discusses the optimization of primary ventilation fan speeds in Indian underground coal mines to achieve significant energy savings. It introduces the concepts of Demand Side Management (DSM) and Time of Use (TOU) tariffs, emphasizing the potential for cost savings through load management. The study focuses on the implementation of Ventilation on Demand (VOD) and TOU tariffs to optimize fan speeds, resulting in substantial energy and cost reductions. The research is supported by a detailed case study of the Tandsi underground coal mine, showcasing the practical application of these optimization strategies. The article highlights the importance of real-time monitoring and advanced control algorithms in achieving these savings while maintaining safety standards. It concludes with an analysis of the results, demonstrating the significant potential for energy and cost savings in underground coal mine ventilation systems.
