BMW M GmbH is offering sporty mid-range SUVs for the first time with the BMW X3 M and the BMW X4 M models. Both models are also available in the even sportier Competition variants.
The BMW X3 M and BMW X4 M can be recognised from the outside by the large, M-specific air intakes. The powerful mid-size SUVs are fitted with 20-inch light-alloy wheels, and they feature a sports exhaust system located at the rear next to the diffuser. The Competition models' kidney, wing mirror caps, M gills and rear spoiler are all in black, as well as the 21-inch, diamond cut wheels.
The X3/X4-M models are powered by a classic six-cylinder in-line petrol engine, which offers 353 kilowatts (480 hp) and a maximum torque of 600 Newton metres. The performance of the 3.0 l M TwinPower turbo engine has been increased to 375 kilowatts (510 hp) in the Competition version. Power is transmitted by the eight-speed M-Steptronic transmission. The M xDrive all-wheel drive with Active M Differential in the rear axle drive is rear-wheel biased. The BMW X3 M and BMW X4 M accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.2 seconds. The Competition models are a tenth of a second faster.
The interior includes electrically adjustable sports seats and leather outfitting, as well as an M cockpit, a leather steering wheel and an M gear selector lever. The sports suspension offers three different set-up options, which can be called up at the touch of a button. The M xDrive Driving Dynamics Control Switch also offers three stages; it influences the engine and transmission characteristics as well as the steering curve.
