Abstract

This chapter delves into the seismic behavior of T-shaped reinforced concrete (RC) structural walls, focusing on the impact of extended boundary elements and different reinforcement types. Through numerical simulations using ABAQUS 6.14, the study compares conventional and extended boundary elements, revealing significant enhancements in lateral strength, ultimate drift, and displacement ductility. The research also examines the influence of high-strength ductile and nonductile reinforcement on the seismic performance of these walls. Key findings include the superior performance of extended boundary elements, particularly when the flange is under tension, and the higher ultimate drift and displacement ductility capacity of walls made with high-strength nonductile rebar. The study concludes with practical recommendations for optimizing the design of T-shaped RC walls to enhance their seismic resilience.
