Enhancement quality factor of ZnNiTiO4 microwave ceramics by substituting Ti4+ with Sn4+

Abstract

The microwave dielectric properties of ZnNi(Ti(1−x)Snx)O4 ceramics were examined with a view to their exploitation for mobile communication. The ZnNi(Ti(1−x)Snx)O4 ceramics were prepared by the conventional solid-state method. The diffraction peaks of ZnNi(Ti(1−x)Snx)O4 ceramics shifted to lower angles as x increased. The unit cell volumes of ZnNi(Ti(1−x)Snx)O4 ceramics increased from 599.592 to 616.534 Å3 as x increased from 0 to 0.5. The average grain size of the ZnNi(Ti(1−x)Snx)O4 ceramics increased from 19.84 to 20.21 μm as x increased from 0 to 0.05 and decreased from 20.21 to 12.57 μm as x increased from 0.05 to 0.5. Dielectric constant (ε r ) of 16.7, quality factor (Q × f) of 73,600 GHz, and temperature coefficient of resonant frequency (τ f ) of −45 ppm/ °C were obtained for ZnNi(Ti0.95Sn0.05)O4 ceramics that were sintered at 1550 °C for 2 h.
