Abstract

This article investigates the enhancement of high-value metabolite production and asparaginase activity in Haematococcus pluvialis through the use of different organic carbon sources and feeding strategies. The study highlights the potential of glycerol and molasses as cost-effective and sustainable carbon sources, demonstrating their ability to boost the biosynthesis of proteins, fatty acids, and astaxanthin. The findings reveal that the combination of glycerol in a single pulse and molasses in multiple pulses is particularly effective for increasing astaxanthin production. Additionally, the article documents for the first time the asparaginase activity in H. pluvialis, positioning it as a novel and promising source of this enzyme. The research underscores the importance of selecting the optimal carbon source and feeding strategy to maximize the production of target metabolites, aligning with the principles of a biorefinery model. The study provides valuable insights into the metabolic pathways and the interplay between different metabolites, offering a comprehensive understanding of how to optimize the cultivation and extraction processes for H. pluvialis.
