Abstract

The study investigates the potential of silicon supplementation to enhance salinity stress tolerance in finger millet. Salinity stress significantly impacts plant growth and development, with more than one billion hectares of land affected globally. Finger millet, known for its nutritional value and stress resistance, was subjected to various concentrations of silicon under salt stress conditions. The results showed that silicon supplementation improved germination rates and seedling growth, particularly in salt-tolerant varieties. Additionally, silicon reduced membrane damage and enhanced the accumulation of antioxidants, indicating its protective role against salinity stress. The study highlights the practical applications of silicon fertilization in agricultural settings, offering a promising strategy to mitigate the detrimental effects of salinity on crop yields.
