Abstract

The article introduces the Synergistic Optimization Framework for Enhanced Reliability (SOFER), which addresses the complex challenges of modern power grids by optimizing IoT sensor placement and communication network design. By integrating power grid simulations and communication network modeling, SOFER ensures extensive grid observability and robust data transmission. The framework employs a hybrid algorithm combining Genetic Algorithms and Simulated Annealing, achieving a 25% cost reduction and a 20% increase in system reliability compared to existing methods. The paper demonstrates the effectiveness of SOFER through a case study on the IEEE 57-bus system, highlighting its potential to enhance real-time monitoring and response capabilities in smart grids. The results showcase improvements in reliability, resilience, and network performance metrics, making SOFER a promising solution for future smart grid technology.
