Enhancing the acoustic durability of sound-absorbing polyurethane foam via graphene oxide impregnation

Abstract

The study investigates the enhancement of acoustic durability in sound-absorbing polyurethane (PU) foam through graphene oxide (GO) impregnation. It builds on previous findings that thermal aging degrades the sound absorption performance of PU foam. The research demonstrates that GO impregnation fills open pores in the foam, transforming open-type cells into closed-type cells, thereby enhancing acoustic durability. Experimental results show that GO-impregnated PU foam maintains stable transport parameters and sound absorption coefficients even after repeated thermal aging. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) images reveal that GO effectively fills the open pores, preserving the foam's structure under high-temperature conditions. The study concludes that GO impregnation significantly improves the acoustic durability of PU foam, making it a promising approach for various sound absorption applications.
