Abstract

This chapter delves into the application of ensemble learning methods to predict corrosion in reinforced concrete structures, a critical issue in the construction industry. The study evaluates the performance of Boosted Trees, Bagged Trees, and optimization techniques, including Bayesian and random search optimizers, in predicting corrosion based on various input parameters such as temperature, relative humidity, and concrete age. The research demonstrates that Bagged Trees with Bayesian optimization achieve the highest accuracy, with an R-squared value of 0.96 and the lowest RMSE of 17.393. The chapter also discusses the trade-offs between training time, computational resources, and prediction accuracy, offering practical insights for professionals in the field. Additionally, the study explores the use of Principal Component Analysis (PCA) for dimensionality reduction and the impact of hyperparameter tuning on model performance. The findings highlight the potential of ensemble learning methods to enhance the durability of concrete structures and reduce maintenance costs, making it a valuable resource for professionals seeking innovative solutions to corrosion prediction.
