Abstract

This chapter delves into the environmental implications of income and circular material use within the circular economy, focusing on 27 European countries from 2010 to 2021. It highlights the shift from traditional linear production systems to circular economy practices, which aim to reduce waste and lower CO2 emissions. The study employs advanced econometric methods, including the Pooled Mean Group-Autoregressive Distributed Lag (PMG-ARDL) model, to analyze the long-term and short-term effects of income and circular material use on greenhouse gas emissions. Key findings reveal that circular economy practices can significantly reduce emissions and promote sustainable economic growth. The research also explores the complex relationships between economic growth, circular economy, and carbon emissions, providing valuable insights for policymakers and researchers. Additionally, the chapter reviews existing literature on the circular economy and its environmental benefits, emphasizing the importance of efficient technologies, better infrastructural policies, and social considerations in improving environmental quality.
