Abstract

The chapter begins by defining Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) and its role in understanding sustainability. It highlights the burgeoning interest in sustainability, driven by global challenges and the push for corporate responsibility. The text discusses the multifaceted nature of ESG, focusing on environmental, social, and governance aspects. It emphasises the importance of ESG performance in evaluating a company's holistic impact and its role in risk management and value creation. The chapter also explores the evolution of ESG, the standardisation of reporting frameworks, and the challenges faced in achieving meaningful ESG integration. It concludes by underscoring the critical role of sustainability in long-term business success and the growing importance of ESG metrics in investment decisions.
