Abstract

The study delves into the epitaxial growth of face-centered cubic (FCC) metals such as silver, gold, and copper on various NaCl surfaces, including the (100), (110), and (211) crystal faces. It examines the effects of surface treatments like water and ethanol pre-treatment, as well as deposition conditions such as substrate temperature and vacuum pressure. The research reveals that water adsorption significantly enhances epitaxial growth by increasing the reactivity of the surface to impinging adatoms. Additionally, furnace-annealing is found to facilitate rapid recrystallization, leading to improved epitaxy without the need for post-deposition annealing. The study also highlights the importance of surface geometry rearrangement and the role of adsorbed gases in influencing the orientation and quality of the deposited films. The findings offer valuable insights into the controlled preparation of FCC metal films with desired characteristics, paving the way for further advancements in semiconductor devices and materials science.
