Abstract

The article focuses on estimating the security of quantum key distribution (QKD) systems through the lens of guesswork, a method that quantifies the effort required for an eavesdropper, Eve, to correctly guess the secret key. It introduces the concept of trace distance to measure the difference between practical and ideal quantum states, highlighting its role in security analysis. The authors propose two innovative attacking strategies for Eve, one involving guessing from high to low probability, and the other utilizing specific measurement outcomes. They prove the lower bound of guesswork and discuss its implications for practical QKD systems. The article also demonstrates the tight bound of the guessing probability, showcasing the efficiency of the trace distance method in security estimation. Throughout, the work emphasizes the careful selection of trace distance to ensure the security of generated keys, making it a valuable resource for professionals in the field of quantum cryptography.
